The kit (RDA5807FP chip) is simple and straightforward, has good sensitivity and stereo reception across the band. However, the antenna filter needs to tune to about 98MHz (middle of the FM band) with a charactersitic impedance of approx 50 ohms, giving the correct values for L1/C1 as 100nH (nanohenries)/27pF and NOT 100uH (microhenries)/33pF as supplied. The 100nH inductor could easily be 5-6 turns of 22SWG insulated copper wire on a 3.5mm plastic former.
The extenal antenna (when used) would connect to pin 4 of the chip, with pins 3 & 4 on the ASW jumper shorted to bypass the headphone antenna. Many other components such as Q1, R2, R3, R4, LED etc. are also NOT STRICTLY NECESSARY and I’d recommend skipping these, especially for battery operation.
